BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – New research suggests that many types of cancers can be prevented at the genetic level through better nutritional choices.
Dr. Shayesteh said while there is no particular “super food” that prevents cancer, studies have shown that people who create a food plate made up of two-thirds vegetables and one-third lean protein such as meat and fish have lower incidents of cancer. He also said that eating processed foods, foods high in sugar, drinking alcohol and eating too much red meat can lead to some types of cancers because of how they affect our metabolism.
He said foods such as leafy vegetables, beans, nuts, fruits and whole grains provide the best defenses against common cancers.
