Poland eatery closes its doors

POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – A long-time eatery in Poland is now closed to customers.

The sign at Friendly’s on U.S. Route 224 now reads: “This location is closed. Thank you to all our guests for your patronage.”

Our station put a call into corporate management to find out why and received the following statement:

“On Sunday, November 16, 2014, Apex Hospitality, Inc., a Friendly’s franchisee, announced the closing of its Friendly’s location in Poland, Ohio. The restaurant located at 3 W. McKinley Way will cease operations, effective immediately.”

An employee of seven years said she came to work Monday and learned she no longer has a job.

“I worked yesterday and this morning I got some calls from people and said it was closed. We had no idea,” Samantha Cox said.

Friendly’s was founded in 1935 and currently has 380 locations across the U.S. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2011 and began an overhaul of its restaurants in 2013.
