Giant Eagle receives approval for new GetGo in Boardman

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Giant Eagle presented its plans to the Boardman Zoning Board on Tuesday night.

They want to put up a GetGo gas station on property along Route 244 between California Avenue and Southern Boulevard.

Five buildings currently on the land would have to be torn down in order for the gas station to be placed there.

Boardman Zoning Director Sarah Gartland said the project may help the congestion along Route 224 near the Southern Park Mall.

“California and Southern Boulevard are not heavily traveled roads compared to other intersections along 224, and by reducing the number of curb cuts and pushing the access further away from 224, it should actually improve the situation,” Gartland said.

Giant Eagle needed a conditional permit to build a gas station in the township.

That approval was given Tuesday night. Now the grocery store chain must finish negotiations to buy the land.

Once that is done, they can seek the rest of the permits needed to build the new GetGo.
