Cutbacks coming to Warren PD

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Cutbacks are coming to the Warren Police Department.

Warren City Council voted 9-1 Tuesday to eliminate three ranked positions in the department, including a captain, a lieutenant and a sergeant position. That would save the city about $400,000.

The positions will be eliminated through attrition because three ranking officers are expected to retire within the next four months.

Warren is expected to bring in $800,000 less in tax collections than originally expected for 2014. And budget requests from the various departments are about $5 million more than what the city has to work with.
