YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A relative of a Youngstown murder victim has come forward, recounting the man’s final moments.
D’Angelo Young said he was with his cousin, 22-year-old Devon Damous, last Saturday night before Damous was gunned down inside a vehicle parked outside of 721 Lexington Ave., on Youngstown’s north side.
Damous was shot multiple times. No suspects have been arrested.
Young said he is speaking out on the slaying as a way of bringing closure to his family. He said several children were in the house at the time of the shooting and the family is still haunted by the events.
Young believes his cousin was gunned down by people from out of town in retaliation for a previous activity.
“I knew it was a hit. Any younger kid, any male down here in Youngstown would have pulled off all crazy and skid marks but they didn’t,” Young said. “They pulled off all calm and mellow, and they left my cousin there to die.”
Police said Damous died of multiple gunshots to the head, and that his death is the eighth homicide in the city within two months.
Authorities believe the shooting is not related to other recent shootings in Youngstown.
