‘Movember’ ends with shave-off

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – As “Movember” comes to a close, men participating in the no-shaving movement can now take off that extra facial hair.

As part of the official “shave-off,” men are removing their mustaches which is meant to spark a conversation and raise awareness for prostate cancer.

Before taking it all off, some men were showing off their month-long growth and shared how they’ve encouraged other men to get age-appropriate cancer screenings.

“Most of us here cannot wait to get the little bit of fuzz that we’ve been able to muster all month long off, so we are just gathering today like we did kicking off the month and just celebrating those conversations, talking about stories that we’ve had throughout the month,” said Jonathan Fauvie, Mercy Health special events manager.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in seven American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives, and more than 233,000 will receive that diagnosis this year alone.
