Inmate accused of nurse attack indicted

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Mahoning County jail inmate accused of assaulting a jail nurse last week has been indicted by a grand jury.

Deron Williams, 32, is facing one count of felonious assault and two counts of assault in the Nov. 28 attack on Joyce O’Hara. The attack was captured on video by the jail’s surveillance camera.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said O’Hara was delivering medications when Williams punched her in the face. Several corrections officers tackled Williams to the ground following the assault.

Williams is in jail on a felonious assault charge from September in which he is accused of stabbing his father with a steak knife. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to that charge, according to court records.

He will be arraigned on the new charges next week and remains at the Mahoning County Jail on $50,000 bond.
