Police looking for Poland Twp. break-in, assault suspect

POLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – About an hour after police had called off their search for an arrestee who escaped Friday morning, a homeowner in Poland Township caught someone trying to break into his car.

It happened at a home on Cliffview Drive off Spittler Road around 2:30 a.m.

Late Friday morning, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents processing a Cadillac SUV for possible evidence.

Police said the homeowner spotted a man sitting in the front passenger seat of the car, going through the glove box. But when he confronted the suspect, the owner was hit in the head with a flashlight and knocked to the ground, and the would-be thief ran off.

Police said the incident was not connected to the earlier search for Brandon Bennett, who led police on a chase and escaped arrest early Friday morning.
