Theft suspect arrested with the public’s help

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — Niles police identify a suspect in record time with the public’s help.

The police department posted three pictures on their Facebook page Saturday evening.

Investigators say the man in the photos is responsible for multiple thefts from businesses in the state Route 422 area.

He’s accused of running into stores, grabbing merchandise, and then running back out and escaping on a BMX style bicycle.

Within 20 minutes of posting the pictures, police say they positively identified the suspect through multiple Facebook messages telling them his name.

The name won’t be released until Monday when charges are officially filed.

Investigators say they’ve had a 100 percent success rate at identifying suspects when their photos are posted on the Department Facebook page.

They’ve had as many as 10 in the last year alone.
