Dr. Shayesteh: Mediterranean Diet and Longevity

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mediterranean Diet has been touted as a way to lose weight, manage cholesterol and lower blood pressure, but new research also shows it can help people live longer.

The characteristics of the Mediterranean Diet are lean proteins, such as chicken and fish, use of olive oil exclusively, whole grains, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts. The diet eliminates trans-fats such as butter and margarine, processed foods and red meat.
