YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s a phone call no parent would ever want to get.
“This morning she called to tell me he went to the store with her boyfriend and he has not been back since,” said the mother of a 5-year-old boy who was the focus of an Amber Alert Tuesday morning.
SaVion Floyd’s mom got the call from family early Tuesday shortly after the alert was issued.
“He loves playing basketball. He is smart, really smart. He knows more than a 5-year-old should,” she said.
Shortly after, police got a tip that the gold Pontiac Bonneville they were looking for was in a driveway on Youngstown’s south side.
“The mother called us and said the vehicle was located and we responded here and found the child inside safe,” Youngstown Police Capt. Brad Blackburn said.
SaVion was inside the house with a man who is being called a “loose family acquaintance.” However, Marvin Backmon, 48, was not.
“We don’t have any other friends or family members that we are aware of in town. We will catch up with him though,” Blackburn said.
SaVion was taken to the hospital by his mom to get checked out. Police said he was OK and appeared to be in good health.
According to the alert issued by Youngstown Police, Backmon has an extensive criminal history and an out-of-state-warrant.
Anyone with information on Backmon is asked to call police.
