Police tracing events in teen’s Ohio mall shooting

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) – Police are studying surveillance video from a southwest Ohio mall in their investigation of the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy authorities say tried to rob a shopper after failing to obtain limited-edition athletic shoes.

Miami Township police say a man with a concealed weapon permit fired his gun after he and another man were accosted Saturday morning by three teens on a sidewalk outside the Dayton Mall. Police say one teen had showed a gun. Police say all those involved had gone to the mall for the athletic shoes sale, but the teens apparently got there too late.

The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports that civic leaders in Middletown planned a community forum Tuesday after the deaths of two of the city’s teens in less than a week.
