MILTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Some people kicked off the new year on Thursday by “freezing for no reason” at Lake Milton for an annual tradition.
About two dozen people dove into the cold waters for the 11th annual Polar Bear Plunge. Men and women of all ages ran from the Craig Beach swimming area into the lake. Many ran back even faster, shivering all the way.
“It was cold, but it was not too bad really. It feels good right now but it is going to hit really soon. I just wanted to do something silly for once in my life,” Carol Donovan of Lake Milton said.
The Grandview Tavern sponsors the chilly event every New Year’s Day.
“Honestly, just for the fun. It kind of just stuck. Something silly we do every year to cure your hangover really. You have to have a little sense of adventure and be able to laugh at yourself really,” organizer Mike Reinhart said.
