PITTSBURGH (AP) – Charges against a Pittsburgh man jailed last month in the beating death of his girlfriend’s 6-month-old daughter have been upgraded to homicide.
Prosecutors charged 29-year-old Kenneth Reeves on Tuesday in connection with Kamero Newton’s Dec. 6 death.
Police say Reeves beat Kamero into unconsciousness. Doctors declared her brain dead and removed her from life support.
He was originally charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Court records show Reeves pleaded guilty in September to charges he beat an ex-girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.
A judge sentenced him to a supervised release program and ordered him to take anger management classes.
