Fire destroys vacant Youngstown house

A vacant house caught fire on Wardell Avenue

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A raging fire destroyed a house on Youngstown’s east side Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were called to the blaze on Wardell Avenue off Jacobs Road around 1 p.m. At one point, thick black smoke could be seen for miles.

Firefighters said the house had been empty for quite a while and had all of its utilities shut off. Firefighters said rather than endanger anyone by trying to tackle the blaze, they chose to let it burn itself out.
