Sharon police to add to ranks

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – Despite having money issues in the past, the Sharon Police Department will soon have new officers on the job.

In 2011, only five officer’s served the area. Now, 27 officers are on staff and three new hires will be sworn in Thursday. More hires are expected throughout the year.

The budget for the police department increased for 2015 by 15 percent primarily because of wage, pension and health care increases.

Sharon’s police and fire budget amounts to half of the city’s operating budget. And other than the cost of employment, there are no large expense increases estimated for the police department in 2015.
