HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Police in Howland are still totaling up the damage after arresting a man for breaking into a number of cars at a mobile home park Monday morning.
It happened around 3:30 Monday morning at the Howland Village mobile home park on East Market Street. According to a police report, someone vandalized about 10 cars.
The police report said that the suspect was booked and returned to the custody of his mother.
Hope Warner said he was outside having his coffee when he noticed someone suspicious walking around the park with a Hello Kitty Backpack. He said he confronted the man and said the man ducked into a house where no one was present.
Someone else had already called police by the time the confrontation ended, Warner said.
“He didn’t miss a single house, he hit every single car he could, and I quit counting at 40,” Warner said. “Cars that had their doors ajar or their trunks open, and quite a few people, it’s the elderly in here.”
Warner said change, electronics and even prescription pills were stolen. After this morning, he plans to patrol the park at night to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
