Dispatcher: ‘Roads are a solid sheet of ice’

ODOT crews are planning their attack for the weekend storm to hit Youngstown, Ohio.


YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Several accidents, including a double fatality in Austintown, are being reported across the Valley.

Freezing rain began moving into the area mid-morning Thursday and created slick conditions on road surfaces.

Several reports of vehicles off the road and in ditches have been coming into the WKBN 27 First News newsroom.

photo 2A road crew worker was heard saying, “I need some material over here. I have snowflakes the size of pizzelles over here!”

Sidewalks are also ice covered in some areas.

Motorists are urged to used extreme caution when driving.
