Youngstown promotes two firefighters

Two Youngstown firefighters were promoted to the rank of captain

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown Fire Department has added two new captains to its ranks.

Lieutenants Chris Weaver and Brian Hoffman took their oaths as captains Tuesday morning from Youngstown Mayor John McNally. Youngstown Fire Chief John O’Neill said the change in rank brings a lot of responsibility in the fire service.

“Actually in Youngstown, a captain is a crew leader who goes in and fights fires. He is a crew leader, makes sure his crew is all accounted for at all times and leads the charge into putting the fire out,” O’Neill said.

The new captains will replace two others who have retired from the department.
