YSU eliminating August graduation ceremony

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State University announced a new graduation schedule, including the elimination of its yearly August commencement ceremony.

Historically, the university has conducted three commencements a year in the Beeghly Center on campus: May, August and December.

Students who would otherwise participate in the August ceremony will have the opportunity to attend commencement in either May or December.

The May commencement will continue to include a morning and an afternoon ceremony.

“We believe this new schedule will provide a more enhanced and distinct commencement for all of our graduates, their families and friends,” Interim Provost Martin Abraham said.

Summer graduates who wish to attend the May commencement must register between Feb. 17 and April 13.

YSU’s new graduation schedule is as follows for 2015:

Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m. Commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students in the Beeghly College of Education, Williamson College of Business Administration and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Saturday, May 16, 2:30 p.m. Commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students in the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the College of Creative Arts and Communication.

Sunday, Dec. 13, 2 p.m. Commencement ceremonies for all undergraduate and graduate students in all six colleges.
