Ash Wednesday celebrated at St. Columba

Christians around the world and at St. Columba in Youngstown, Ohio celebrate Ash Wednesday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ash Wednesday was celebrated by many around the world.

The holy day is the beginning of the Lenten season for many Christians.

Bishop George Murry celebrated mass at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. He says parishioners should use the season to become ambassadors for their faith.

Lent continues until Easter, which is celebrated April 5 this year.

Pope Francis presided over Mass for Ash Wednesday at the Church of San Sabina. He led the Ash Wednesday procession from the Basilica of Sant’Anselmo to the Basilica of Santa Sabina in Rome.
