Man takes plea deal in Warren murder case

David Blackmon was sentenced to nine years in a Warren, Ohio murder.

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Warren man facing murder charges was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal.

David Blackmon, pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to involuntary manslaughter with a weapons specification in the 2014 shooting death of Mitchell Pruitt, 50, inside Pruitt’s Deerfield Ave. S.W. home.

Blackmon was immediately sentenced and did not say anything.

Pruitt’s daughter Brooke told Blackmon in court that her dad might be gone, but she is still going to live her life in his honor.

“My Dad spent 15 years in the Air Force and served his country. He was a good guy. He did not deserve this,” Pruitt said. “My Dad, I love him so much. I will always be there for him, and I am always going to make him proud.”

Police found Pruitt’s body lying on the kitchen floor of 1570 Deerfield Ave. S.W. about 2:30 a.m. Reports stated a neighbor had knocked on the door earlier and when there was no answer, found Pruitt inside the house. The woman called police, who confirmed that someone shot Pruitt multiple times.

“He was shot down in the home we grew up in and this was supposed to be a friend. He was a friend of my brother’s, so I just say be careful because you just can’t trust people,” Pruitt said.
