YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Police arrested James Garltic, 38, Wednesday, charging him with inducing panic after they said he threatened to shoot police.
Police surrounded a house at 63 N. Hazelwood Ave. on the city’s west side Wednesday morning after getting calls from a social service agency that Garltic was inside armed and threatening to shoot officers if they tried to arrest him.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. Shortly after a perimeter had been established, and a hostage negotiator had arrived, Garltic came out to his front porch on his own and surrendered peacefully, according to police.
Paramedics arrived a short time later and took Garltic to a waiting ambulance. Officers did recover a number of rifles inside the house, where neighbors said the man lives with his girlfriend, several children and his mother.
Emergency workers took Garltic to St. Elizabeth Health Center for an evaluation.
