Trumbull engineering departments to merge March 9

trumbull county engineers offices considering merger

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Trumbull County Commissioners approved on Wednesday the merger of its two engineering departments.

Effective March 9, County Engineer Randy Smith will take over duties for the Sanitary Engineer’s department. The merger comes after delays and problems with the Kinsman sewer project.

Commissioner Dan Polivka said they plan to merge the departments in phases, which could eventually save tens of thousands of dollars.

“I think there is continuity. There is one department head getting grants, working together, you get the talents of both departments to move forward,” Polivka said.

Both departments have similar equipment and payroll departments, which could be merged to save money. Polivka said no layoffs are planned at this time.
