Vallourec makes company-wide cuts

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Business is down internationally for Vallourec that could impact jobs at the plant in Youngstown.

According to a Vallourec financial report, the company will reduce jobs and working hours in its mills because of reduced oil prices.

The company expects to cut 1,400 jobs throughout the multi-national company.

The Paris-based company plans to reduce the company’s workforce by eliminating 7 percent of its jobs and 15 percent of its working-hours.

The company has not released how big of impact the reductions will have local operations at Vallourec Star employees in Youngstown.

Earlier this month, Vallourec Star announced it will shut down operations for three weeks beginning this month. A voluntary 6-month layoff is also being offered to workers.
