Fire at Youngstown wastewater plant

YOUNGSTOWN (WKBN) – Crews were called out today to a fire at Youngstown’s wastewater treatment plant.

Chief John O’Neill tells First News a conveyor belt caught fire just before 8 a.m at the Poland Avenue facility.

The fire never got that big, but issues with the hydrants slowed down their efforts.

The first hydrant malfunctioned, while the second was buried in snow.

About four workers were at the plant at the time and no one was injured.

The fire department left just after 9 a.m.
