Local stores strive to keep up with winter weather needs

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Staying ahead of the ice and snow as the winter drags on and driveways and sidewalks stay covered, local stores are racing to keep up with people’s need for ice melt.

At one local business, Handyman of Austintown, owner Jeff Kordes said he’s been trying to keep up with demand, but he’s finding it increasingly harder as the heavy snow continues to fall.

“It’s been extremely cold. That doesn’t allow the snow to melt away. So it just keeps building up, turning to ice. That’s why there’s been such a big demand for it,” said Kordes.

Several other local stores have all said the same thing. They’ve getting more than one shipment a week of rock salt, and still are having trouble keeping it in stock.
