NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–Police are issuing a warning to the public after a new dating app has been linked to a rape in New Haven. Police arrested Timmy Turner, 22, just before 2 a.m. at a home on Edgewood Avenue.

Police said the victim came from Massachusetts, and met Turner on a website called “Tagged.”

New Haven police told News 8 on Monday afternoon that crime linked to online websites, unfortunately, is becoming more and more common.

“This is something people need to be aware of, and be careful of,” said David Hartman of New Haven police. “There has got to be great scrutiny by people using such an app or an online dating site.”

Turner is facing charges. Police said that he is from the area, but did not live at the home on Edgewood where he was arrested.
