Anti-violence rally held in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – No more violence.

That was the message Thursday behind a special event at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown. The VIP Family Violence Prevention Coalition helped put on the event, and Youngstown State University president Jim Tressel was among the speakers.

Danielle Cantrell is a survivor of domestic violence and shared her very personal story. She said people need to be aware that it is happening everywhere.

“It is really a matter of making the public aware that this is not inside the church, outside the church, certain social class, certain race, religion. It is everywhere and we need to be aware and understand that it’s not OK, it’s not acceptable,” Cantrell said.

According to the latest numbers out from the CDC, one in four women have been victims of severe physical violence by a partner.
