Man injured in I-80 crash identified

A man changing a tire along I-80 in Lackawannock Twp, Pa. was hit by a semi-truck.


LACKAWANNOCK TWP., Pa. (WKBN) – A man is in critical condition from injuries he sustained after being hit by a tractor-trailer in Mercer County.

The truck hit Daniel Montini, 34, of Aliquippa around 7 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 in Lackawannock Township.

Montini was changing a tire on his vehicle along I-80. An approaching semi-truck ran over some rumble strips on the right side of the ride, then steered left and lost control after hitting a series of potholes, according to a police report. The truck then struck a guardrail, sideswiped a bridge rail and ran into the median of Interstate 80, striking Montini and his vehicle, tossing him yards away.

Montini is listed in critical condition at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and his passenger were not hurt.
