YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – For the second year in a row, students and staff at Cardinal Mooney High School pledged to make a positive impact on their community.
Called the Yes Fest!, the event is an offshoot of the “Just Say No” anti-drug slogan. Its goal is not only to discourage drug use, but contribute something positive to the community no matter what it may be.
“Finding something in life that engages you, engages your passion. And contributing to that and making a positive impact in the community,” Mooney vice president Mike Latessa said.
Latessa said that kids can give back in a number of ways, from taking part in neighborhood cleanups to making time for people who may not have family in the area.
“We had a lot of positive feedback from some of our students that had a chance to volunteer in the summer, get involved in some things and getting a lot of good feedback from our agencies that had our students out there volunteering and helping in the community,” Latessa said.
The day also included speakers who discussed staying drug free and giving back.
