CLEVELAND (AP) – The medical examiner’s office has identified the man who authorities say was fatally shot by Cleveland police in a confrontation that resulted in an officer being shot in their ballistic vest.
The man killed by police has been identified as 64-year-old Theodore Johnson.
Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told media outlets at a briefing that a woman went to a police station at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported that her male partner had a gun and had threatened her and a landlord.
Williams said officers encountered the man in a hallway of the home and that he pulled out a gun and began firing. The chief said officers returned fire. The man died at the scene. The officer, who was treated at a hospital, has not been identified.
