WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – American Water Management Services is doing what it can to get its deep injection well in Weathersfield Township back in action.
At a hearing on Wednesday, the company asked the Oil and Gas Commission to lift a state order which shut the well down last fall.
The hearing concluded with American Water Management appealing the order to discontinue operations.
The decision to shut the well down came after the Ohio Department of Natural Resources found possible evidence that the operation of two wells at the time caused a 2.1 magnitude earthquake on Aug. 31 and another in July.
The second and shallower well was found unrelated to the events and re-opened in September.
Written closing arguments from both sides are due back to the commission by March 25. It could take six weeks or more before a decision is made.
