CINCINNATI (AP) – High water has already closed some roads along the Ohio River in southern Ohio and is expected to get worse with forecasters calling for steady, sometimes heavy rain into the weekend.
A flood warning was issued for the Ohio River from the Cincinnati area east to Portsmouth. The National Weather Service predicted up to 2 inches of rain Friday through Saturday for most of southern Ohio. A flood watch is in effect for most of that area as rain falls on ground saturated by melting snow and earlier rainfall.
The Ohio River was nearly a foot above flood stage of 52 feet by midday Friday and expected to crest around 56 feet. Forecasters say the rain should end Saturday as a low pressure area moves out of the state.
