GROVE CITY, Pa. (WKBN) – A father and stepmother in Grove City are accused of hurting their own child.
Police said the girl’s injuries included a bruise on her calf that looked like a human bite mark and brain bleeding.
Bruce Perryman Jr., 33, and Samantha Perryman, 25, are being held in the Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bond after they were arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said the incident happened in January and involved Bruce Perryman’s 2-year-old daughter. According to the criminal complaint, Samantha Perryman told police the girl fell out of her booster chair inside their Monroe Street home.
The next day, she noticed the child acting strangely and rushed her to Grove City Medical Center. Doctors there said she had suffered life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors said is Monroe Street is normally pretty quiet and they had not heard much from the Perryman’s before.
“We have the funeral home at the end of the street. And that is about it. You know, police are not here hardly ever except for that,” neighbor Angela Bartolone said.
She and her husband, Nunzio, have lived next door to the Perryman’s for several months. They were home when police came to arrest the couple and said they are shocked.
“They are really nice people actually. I don’t see them doing anything like that,” Nunzio Bartolone said.
Police said they did not formally charge the couple until Thursday because they were conducting an extensive investigation. The girl is now staying with her mother in North Carolina, police said.
