Changes may be inevitable for Fairhaven

The Fairhaven workshop in Niles, Ohio may be privatized.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – An open forum was held Wednesday with the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities. About 35 people attended the meeting to hear about a three-year plan for the Fairhaven facility.

The Tribune Chronicle reports that changes coming to the facility could include privatization.

A new rule by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services prohibits a company from providing Medicare waivers if they offer case management and direct services. Fairhaven provides both.

Parents and guardians of clients who attend the workshops are worried the changes could negatively impact the students.

The Board of Developmental Disabilities still has four more years to complete the transition, but administrators hope to have a new three-year plan presented by July.
