Cleveland police kill break-in suspect during struggle

CLEVELAND (AP) – Cleveland police say an officer shot and killed a man while trying to arrest him after an early morning break-in at a neighborhood store.

Police officials have not identified the man who was shot or the officer who killed him. Police say the man was shot around 2:15 a.m. Thursday after two officers responded to a call about someone breaking into a store.

A police spokesman says the officers watched a man walk out of the store carrying a bag and that the officers struggled with suspect when they tried to arrest him. The spokesman said one of the officers fired a shot that struck the man during the struggle.

The man died at a hospital. The department’s use of deadly force team is investigating.
