FAA gives Amazon permission to test drones

The FAA is allowing Amazon to test drones.

(CNN) – It appears the FAA could be softening its stance on commercial drone use.

Online retailer Amazon wants to use drones as a delivery method one day.

The company first launched its plans more than a year ago, but it’s facing tough restrictions from the FAA.

Thursday, the federal agency gave Amazon permission to test and experiment with certain drones for its fleet.

Under the terms of the experimental permit drones can only be flown below 400 feet, during the day and in clear weather conditions. They also must remain in the line-of-sight of their operators.

Amazon is also required to send monthly data from its tests to the FAA.
