CHICAGO, Illinois (WKBN) – Nationwide, more than 16.4 million people have gained coverage since the Affordable Care Act passed on March 23, 2010.
According to data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, 13,673 consumers in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA area selected or were automatically enrolled in a plan between the passage of the law and February 15, 2015.
“Thousands of Ohioans in Akron, Toledo, and Youngstown have access to quality, affordable health coverage – some for the first time in their lives – because of the health insurance marketplace,” U.S. Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown said. “This coverage not only allows Ohioans to lead healthier lives and seek preventive care – it also gives families, seniors, and young people peace of mind, knowing that they’re covered if they get sick or injured.”
U.S. Representative Tim Ryan, D-OH, also released a statement Monday praising the law. U.S. Republican Senator Rob Portman said in a phone interview Friday that the law has not worked as well as President Barack Obama has claimed.
