Secretary of State visits Lordstown High School

Jon Husted came to Lordstown High School

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The man in charge of elections for the State of Ohio paid a visit to Trumbull County Monday morning.

Secretary of State Jon Husted was at Lordstown High School helping observe Democracy Day, which commemorates the 26th Amendment to the U.S Constitution that gave everyone 18 and over the right to vote.

Husted said he used the visit to put that right into perspective for the students.

“There are a lot of people who came before them that sacrificed, many of them with their lives, to provide the freedom and the democracy that they enjoy and they need to respect it, and cherish it, and carry it forward,” Husted said.

As part of Monday’s program, several students who recently turned 18 filled out forms to register to vote.
