ALDI purchases Bottom Dollar sites

BATAVIA, ILL. (WKBN) – ALDI, the national grocery chain, announced Friday it has completed its purchase of 66 Bottom Dollar sites, including five local stores. The company plans to open ALDI stores at 30 of these locations, but none of the local stores are on the list.

Instead, ALDI said it will evaluate the local stores for sale, sublease or assignment. Local Bottom Dollars stores included in the sale are the three locations in Youngstown, one in Warren and one in New Castle.

CEO of ALDI, Jason Hart, said all of the former Bottom Dollar stores that will become ALDI stores are in Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.

“While we are excited to pursue opening ALDI stores at 30 of these locations, we will continue
working with those communities where we will not be using the sites to ensure a smooth
transition,” said Hart.

In December 2013, ALDI embarked on an accelerated growth plan to open 650 new stores by the
end of 2018, with the goal of operating nearly 2,000 stores across the country.
