Organizations gather for Preparedness Day in Niles

Be "Red Cross Ready" in an emergency.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — The American Red Cross and Dominion East Ohio held its annual Preparedness Day at the Eastwood Mall.

Now in its third year, the goal is to teach people the importance of being “Red Cross Ready” in a disaster.

Participants were tested on how much they know about staying safe and also given First Aid kits in case of a disaster.

“We’re hoping that people will take the information and not only use the kits but also to prepare a plan for themselves and for their families,” said Neil Durbin, Dominion East Ohio.

In addition to the standard First Aid items, the kits also included tips from Dominion on what to do in case of a natural gas leak.

About 250 kits were handed out Saturday.
