struthers luring suspects indicted by grand jury

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – A Mahoning County grand jury indicted two men Thursday on charges that they tried to abduct two girls in Struthers in early March.

The grand jury indicted James McDonald and Joseph Novacich Thursday, charging both with attempted abduction and criminal child enticement.

According to Struthers Police Detective Jeff Lewis, the two men approached two girls, ages 10 and 11, near the Struthers High School football field and tried to coax them into their vehicle, a tan Chevrolet Cavalier.

The two girls ran from the scene and told their parents about the incident according to Lewis. One of the girls’ moms called police, then drove around until she found the same car and sent police the license plate number, Lewis said.

Police then filed warrants for the men’s arrests and eventually picked them up.

Lewis said that police are looking to see if the men tried to lure anyone else and that anyone claiming to be victimized by the men should call Lewis at 330-755-9849.
