GREENE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WKBN) – Police in Mercer County are investigating an accidental shooting at a munitions facility in Greene Township.
According to police, a 25-year-old man was injured at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday after he and other workers were destroying ammunition at Combined Tactical Systems, 388 Kinsman Rd., when a malfunction occurred and an employee was injured.
The employee was taken by medical helicopter from the business.
Police did not disclose the workers condition.
According to a new OSHA regulation that took effect Jan. 1, employers are required to report any work place injury that involves hospitalization within 24 hours. In the past, it was only mandated that fatalities and loss of vision or a limb had to be reported.
The company has 24 hours to report the injury. As of 4 p.m. Thursday, a representative at the OSHA office in Erie, Pa., which oversees Mercer County, said their office was not aware of the accident at Combined Tactical Systems.
It is not clear if the worker was hospitalized.
A woman who answered the phone in the human resources department at the plant said the company had no comment on the incident.
