BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Calling hours were held Sunday for Joseph Kaluza.

Kaluza was a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken on South Avenue in 2008 when a man and woman shot him in the neck during a robbery.

The injury left him paralyzed from the neck down.

Even though he could no longer work, his former boss tells WKBN they stayed in touch with Kaluza after the shooting.

“Joe was always a pillar of strength. We went back, and we visited Joe many times over the years. And certainly a lot of our employees stayed in contact with him. Just a very honorable, good, good person,” said Jim J. Liguori, owner of the KFC managed by Kaluza.

The funeral is Monday morning.

Kaluza was 49 years old.
