PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Authorities say a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the mother of a severely disabled man left in the woods for several days near a southwest Philadelphia park.
Police say 41-year-old Nyia Parler of Philadelphia will face charges including aggravated assault, reckless endangering, neglect of a care-dependent person and kidnapping.
Authorities say the 21-year-old man, who has cerebral palsy and is quadriplegic, was found Friday night near Cobbs Creek Park, lying in leaves covered with a blanket next to a wheelchair and a Bible. He was hospitalized with dehydration and other injuries.
Police believe he was left there before his mother boarded a bus Monday for Maryland, to visit her boyfriend.
Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detectives division says he survived only “by the grace of God.”
