BOARDMAN (WKBN) – The Boardman Township Park is now accepting applications for its brand new community garden.
The space might not look like much now, but the grounds of the historic Southern Stables on Washington Boulevard will be the garden’s home. This is a brand new project for the park, and is part of its continuing partnership with Mahoning County 4-H. There are 20 plots available for Boardman residents this growing season, which runs from May 1 to Nov. 15.
Park Executive Director Daniel Slagle said he is excited for this new adventure.
“People get the opportunity to get outdoors, which, here again, is part of our mission, to provide people with those opportunities to get outdoors, enjoy it, and grow your own food,” he said. “Every year, we want to do something new for the community and obviously, for me, it is something new and I am kind of anxious to see people take advantage of it and enjoy gardening.”
The park began accepting the applications Monday. To register for a 20′ by 10′ plot, you must fill out an application and bring it to the park’s offices. There is a $25 registration fee.
