Diamond Kings contenders: April 13

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mother Nature’s rainy ways haven’t allowed much high school baseball and softball action of late. When she has…area standouts have already made quite an impression. Here’s our first installment of contenders for the 2015 Diamond Kings.

It’s ladies first…and Mathews’ Cheyenne Eggens is making her mark. This season, she racked up a whopping 27 strikeouts in a win over McDonald. She also notched her 1,000th career punchout in the process.

Speaking of strikeouts, Springfield’s Dalton Donachie has plenty. In 17 total innings, he has struck out 26 batters…with a sterling 1.21 ERA….not to mention a no-hitter in the season opener against Mineral Ridge.

Last but not least, Hubbard Junior Catcher Colin Shinosky is on a tear of late. Case in point last Saturday…when he went 4-5 including this 3-run double in a 16-10 win over Brookfield.
