Cause of fire at asphalt company ‘undetermined’

two alarm fire at youngstown asphalt solutions

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) –  It appears the cause of a huge Youngstown business fire last month may never be known.

The blaze consumed the offices and equipment belonging to Asphalt Solutions on Market Street on March 19. The business was a total loss, with damage estimated at $1 million to the building and a dozen trucks that were inside.

Investigators said on Tuesday that the heat, flames and smoke may have been so intense that they could have destroyed clues as to what actually sparked the fire. Investigators believe the blaze started in a rear corner of a vacant house on the property, but they don’t know how it started.

For now, the cause is being listed as undetermined.

Workers were able to salvage a dump truck and some records from the business, which was insured.
