Record Store Day under way

Record Connection
Shoppers filled The Record Connection on Saturday. They were there to pick up new releases from musicians as part of Record Store Day.

WEATHERSFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — Record Store Day has officially begun.

People descended on the Record Connection in Pine Tree Place at 10 a.m. for a chance to get their hands on the latest releases by musicians.

And while most will have to be content to shop, 150 ticket-holders get to hear one of the world’s biggest rock bands — the Foo Fighters.

Lead by Warren native, Dave Grohl, the band announced on Wednesday that it would be playing a concert at noon Saturday at the plaza.

The news prompted a flurry of interest, and people lined up overnight for a chance to get in to the show.

Record Store Day is a national event that encourages people to support locally owned record stores. To get people into the shops, many musicians release new music for the day.

WKBN will have complete coverage of the day’s events both on air and online.
